My name is Thinus (or MJ), not Professor. I am neither more nor less important than you.

Pronunciation: TEA-nis, like Venus with a T, the h is only decorative.

Thinus is Professor in Engineering and Research Chair in the Internet of Things, Director of the MTN Mobile Intelligence Lab, Director of the Electric Mobility Lab, Founding Director of Bridgiot, Founding Director of GreenX Engineering, all at Stellenbosch University.

Bio: MJ (Thinus) Booysen is Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Stellenbosch University. He has been with Stellenbosch University since 2009 and his research is on Energy and Transport (specifically its application to paratransit in Sub-Saharan Africa). He is a founder of Bridgiot, Green X Engineering , co-creator of Geasy and Count Dropula, and led the first minibus and bus electric conversion projects.

He is the Director of the Electric Mobility Lab, Director of the MTN Mobile Intelligence Lab.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, Member of the Institution of Engineering Technology (MIET), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) at the Engineering Council (UK), and a Professional Engineer (PrEng) with the Engineering Council (SA). He has over ten years’ international industry experience in the aerospace and automotive industries with companies that include SunSpace, Rolls-Royce, Boeing, BMW, and Jaguar Land Rover.
